As a writer and someone that markets for clients on Twitter, I am constantly running into this issue. So often, client assume if they don’t see results from Twitter marketing or blogging quickly, then it must not work.
The proof is in the thousands already using Twitter marketing for great result. However, we have to be smart enough to look at what they did. You can’t look at people on Twitter with 100K follower or more and assume that happened overnight. They started with one, just as you will.
In many cases, you won’t need 100K followers to see results, but why not continue to build, anyway. Twitter marketing is something you want to do for the long haul, not for just a few weeks or a month. It requires regular attention and time to build the foundation and get to where you really want to be on Twitter.
Expect your Twitter marketing efforts to take at least six months before they start to pay off. Concentrate on the work of building a targeted following, learning the right tools to automate the process and building your brand awareness. Don’t pay attention to the traffic and the sales you get from Twitter until you’ve built the foundation.
Build Your Following With Targeted Methods
Building a following of 100,000 random people may seem like a great idea, but it’s far better to have 10,000 highly targeted followers on Twitter. In fact, some experts on Twitter don’t have hundreds of thousands of followers.
You want a loyal, interactive following ready to retweet your posts and take action. Often, beginners on Twitter concentrate on the number of followers instead of how targeted they are.
One of the best ways to get targeted followers is to find someone with a good following in your niche and follow the people that follow them. You can also search relevant hashtags and look at who is using those hashtags in their tweets.
There are many other methods and some tools to help with this process. The key is to build a targeted following on Twitter, not just a random following.
Tweet and Tweet Often
Some Twitter users think if they tweet twice a day they are over sharing. Twitter isn’t the same as Google+, Facebook or LinkedIn. It requires regular tweets throughout the day.
You’ll notice that many of the best Twitter users will tweet multiple times every single day, if not every single hour. I actually tweet at least once an hour, depending on the account and the niche.
Now, you cannot tweet every 15 minutes with something you’re selling and expect new customers to come in droves. You have to give your following what they want.
The best strategy will include plenty of other niche content from sources outside of yourself. It will also include plenty of blog posts from your own blog, along with some promotional tweets. It will also include eye-catching images, when possible.
Tweet and tweet often if you want to build a following that interacts with you regularly.
Gratitude Goes a Long Way
Any good course on Twitter marketing 101 will teach you to say Thank You. When someone follows you, retweets your content or tweets a post from your blog, thank them for doing so.
Not only is this polite, but it also shows you’re a real person, not a bot. You can simply look within your notifications and find those sharing your stuff and following you. Send out a thank you to each one and show your gratitude for their help.
Hit Twitter Daily
The right tools will help you send out regular tweets and keep you from having to be on Twitter all day long. When it comes to Twitter marketing for beginners, however, many miss out. You need to stop by Twitter at least once a day, even if you have plenty of tools set up to automate your tweets.
Check in, say thank you to new followers, share a few things, add to your scheduled tweets and interact with your audience. Even if you get way behind on your notifications, a late response to a comment or question is far better than no response.
Automate the Process
While automation can often take the human element out of marketing, with Twitter, it’s vital to your success. Using the right tools to schedule days of tweets ahead of time and to ensure you have plenty of good content going up is very important.
I like Buffer for scheduling tweets and I also use Triberr and JustRetweet to get more shares. These three tools help quite a bit and keep content rolling on my accounts without bogging me down with too much work.

A good Twitter marketing manager will take care of everything and you’ll be able to sit back and enjoy the results. Some of us even write blog posts so that the entire social media process can be automated.
